Throughout history, water has played a critical role in our state’s economic, social, and cultural dynamics. At this point along the journey, Texans have entered a critical phase of implementing a statewide water resource management plan and developing state water policy.
Sponsored by the River Systems Institute, Charting the Course will feature symposia focusing on how far we have come in terms of water management and where we are headed in the future. We will highlight the development of the 2007 Texas Water Plan, the implications and obstacles to its implementation, and how policy activities of the next legislative session can provide a framework for overcoming these obstacles. In addition, the event will provide insight into the complexity of water resource planning issues, including water conservation, reuse, environmental flows, and groundwater management.
