STUDENT POSTER CONTEST

As part of conference activities, the River Systems Institute is sponsoring a student poster contest on research in the field of environmental flows. Students enrolled in water-related degree programs may submit abstracts on research conducted within the past three years.

Submission Criteria:

Abstracts should provide a one or two paragraph summary of information that will be provided on the poster. Final posters should represent applied research in one of the two areas:

  • scientific studies of critical flow rates or implications of reduced flows in freshwater or brackish systems, or
  • studies of strategies and tools applied to environmental flow management.

A limited number of posters will be selected from the submitted abstracts to be displayed during the conference. Conference registration will be waived for the students presenting the selected posters.

The deadline for submitting poster abstracts in October 20, 2005.

Students will be informed of selection by October 21, 2005.

Selected posters (not to exceed 3.5’ X 4’) are to be produced by the student and brought in for display at the conference on October 31, 2005.

Contest Judging Criteria

Judging of the posters will take place during the second day of the conference and be based on:

  • the originality and applicability of the research, and
  • the effectiveness in communicating and presenting information.

Awards

Two levels of recognition will be given for each of the two criteria areas:

Scientific Studies:

Honorable mention: a certificate of recognition
Most outstanding: certificate of recognition, $300 cash award

Management Tools:

Honorable mention: a certificate of recognition
Most outstanding: certificate of recognition, $300 cash award
